(Port) Wine of the month June 2018: Quinta do Noval Vintage Port Nacional 2016

Five years have passed since the last bottling of a Nacional and just 1.000 bottles were produced, of which 50% sit in the Quinta for a later release. Worth every second waiting this Vintage Port reveals an almost black color with intense velvet reflections. Deep, complex and concentrated nose with liquorice, cassis, chocolate, tobacco and a mix of red berries, hints of mint in the background. The palate shows the same intensity, being balanced at the same time. Noticeable tannic structure, perfectly supporting acidity and a boost of red berry fruit and spices. A very long and fascinating complex aftertaste. The best, most expensive and rarest of the 2016s. 20/20
